The Dodge Viper GTS-R is a sports concept coupe featured in Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition.
Description[]
In the early 1990s, first-generation Dodge Viper RT/10s had been modified by racing teams for use in GT racing in North America and Europe without much success. Although its V10 engine was powerful, the car was not adapted to racing and teams lacked the funding to build a car that could compete with factory efforts. One key issue was the fact that the Viper was a roadster, therefore lacking the rigidity that a coupe bodystyle would have. However, following the sales success of the first generation Viper, Dodge began redesigning the car in 1995, upgrading the roadster while at the same time adding a new coupe, known as the Viper GTS.[2]
Ten years after the first Viper Concept was revealed, the 2000 GTS-R concept was shown. Osamu Shikado was responsible for the vehicle's exterior which is 3 inches lower and 2 inches wider than the production Viper at the time. Shikado used race-inspired lines with an aggressive stance. Most of these design cues were adapted to the 2003 ZB I generation Viper along with the interior. These included a higher belt line, a side gill, 'bump-up' rear fender shape, and a more defined side crease. Viewed from above, the front-to-rear stripe now is tapered.
Unlike most concepts, the 2000 Viper Concept was made as a complete car. It features a complete functional interior with air conditioning, adjustable pedals, and a premium sound system. Only one was ever made featuring a dry-sump V10 engine producing 500 hp (373 kW), fifty more than the then outgoing model, and 500 lb⋅ft (678 N⋅m) of torque. The body is a single moulded carbon-fiber shell, with some subtle changes compared with the then outgoing model. An inch and a half has been taken out between the sill and the roof, which together with a chassis sitting two inches lower, gives the car a lower profile. Three inches have been added to the wheelbase and two inches to the track. The doors have also been lengthened, which combined with the longer wheelbase makes entry and exit from the car easier. Brakes are 14-inch ventilated discs with four-piston calipers. The front has the 19-inch wheels with P285/30 ZR Goodyear tires up and 20-inch rear wheels with P335/30 ZR tires.[3]
Performance[]
The Viper GTS-R is the fastest Tuner in class B. Handling is average, but this is barely an indictment of the car's overall performance as it just blows past most things with its lightning quick acceleration and high top speed. Buy this car and you will find yourself in the winner's column more often than not, granted you keep a watchful eye on the brake pedal.

Trivia[]
- This vehicle is a concept car. The design of the third-generation Dodge Viper SRT-10 is based on this vehicle.
- The real life concept car is called the 'Dodge Viper Competition Coupé'.
- Yet despite being a GTS racing prototype it has very average handling.
- This is one of the three Class B tuners (the Saleen SR and Lotus Esprit are the other two) that can keep up with the Exotics, provided they are fully upgraded (and preferably tuned to compensate for understeer or oversteer).
- As a result, the Viper is the only Class B car that can encounter Saleen S7, Aprilia RSV Mille 1000R Factory and possibly Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren opponents, though the Class B Ducati sport bikes also encounter the same opponents as the Viper.
- A stock Viper Red Viper (without it's stripes) appears in a race called Rev Limit in San Diego not as part of the opponents but as prop for the race. Once the player passes through the 6th checkpoint of the race and and proceeds to drive straight they will notice that the Viper has been triggered to drive from its spawnpoint (which is to the first right turn after the trolley tracks while in the race) all the way to the baseball stadium. It is speculated that it is a reference to the character Dice from Midnight Club II as he drives that game's equivalent to the Viper, the Jersey XS.
- For some reason, the Engine Noise for a Full Performance Viper GTS-R is different in the PSP version of the game. While in the Remix edition, it is a partially high-pitched version of the Cadillac Cien's Engine Noise.
- Despite the Viper being only a concept car in 2000, the game lists it as 2003 when equipping the stock rims.
